Demographic Audience

Learn how to create audiences based on gender, age, income, & marital status.

Updated this week

A demographic audience is a group of users categorized based on defining attributes such as gender, age, household income, and marital status. This segmentation allows for precise targeting by leveraging known demographic data to align campaigns with your ideal audience.

Steps to Create a Demographic Audience

1. Access the Audience Tab

Navigate to the Audience tab located on the left-hand side of your screen.

2. Create a New Audience

  • Click the + Audience button.

  • Select Demographic as the audience type.

  • Enter a name and description for your audience.

  • Click Create Audience to proceed.

3. Define Demographic Segments

Once the audience is created, you will see four demographic options:

  • Gender (Male, Female)

  • Age (12-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65+)

  • Household Income ($0-$50K, $50K-$100K, $100K+)

  • Marital Status (Engaged, Divorced, Married, Single)

Example

If you want to target young professionals, you might select:

  • Age: 25-34

  • Income Level: $75,000-$99,999

  • Marital Status: Single, Engaged

This will define an audience that includes users who are 25-34 years old AND earn between $75,000-$99,999 AND are single or engaged.

4. Select Your Target Demographics

  • Expand the categories that are relevant to your target audience.

  • Select the specific demographic attributes that match your ideal audience.

πŸ’‘ Tip: You can choose multiple options within a single category. If you select multiple age groups (e.g., 18-24 and 25-34), the system will interpret this as (18-24 OR 25-34) while still applying other category selections as an AND condition.

5. Save Changes

Click Save Changes to save your demographic selections.

5. (Optional) Refine Segment Selection

After saving a demographic attribute, you can optionally review and adjust the specific data segments included. This allows for more precise control over your targeting.

  • Locate the segment count next to the selected attribute.

  • Click the segment count to open a list of the individual data segments.

  • Review the list and deselect any segments you do not wish to include.

This step is optional, but recommended if you want to fine-tune your audience selection.

6. Activate Your Audience

Click Activate in the top right corner to set your audience as active.
The audience will then be available for application to any ad group of your choice.

Note: Due to the broad scope of demographic audiences, we strongly recommend applying a geographic serving area within the ad group's options section to narrow your targeting and achieve better results. Learn More
